This isn’t a post about a job I have completed…it’s a post about something way more important and close to my heart. My son, Liam, has Apraxia of Speech. Recently found out in this article that the UFC fighter, Ronda Rousey, suffered from Apraxia as a child. For us, it was a long road to figuring out exactly why Liam wasn’t speaking when my older son, Conor, had no issues with his speech. Liam has made great strides in the past few months with his speech. This is due to our research and my wife, Stacey, and I fighting to find out what was going on with our little guy. Early intervention is the key. Through the Chester County Intermediate Unit Liam is now in a school program that gives him the speech pathology he needs 4 days a week, three hours a day. He is also goes to speech therapy on Friday’s. As you can see this is a very intensive process for a 3.5 year old. We are dedicated to helping Liam overcome Apraxia.
Any way I can get the word out about Apraxia I will. If you think your child suffers from Apraxia of Speech please visit the links embedded above or visit http://www.apraxia-kids.org or http://www.asha.org/public/speech/disorders/ChildhoodApraxia/ for more information.
